The Malta-Saudi Arabia joint commission met for the first time today. The Saudi delegation was headed by Yousef Terad Al Saadon, Undersecretary for Economic and Cultural Affairs and the Maltese delegation by Economic Growth Parliamentary Secretary Edward Zammit Lewis. It discussed a number of sectoral issues and the intention to improve bilateral relations in trade, investments and all potential areas of cooperation in economics, cultural and technical fields.

Malta and Kuwait have signed an agreement covering the aviation sector followingtalks in New York between Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and the Kuwait Prime Minister Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. The agreement was signed by Minister for Foreign Affairs George Vella and the deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Kuwait Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Department of Information said.

Malta and Israel have agreed on an action plan for cooperation in healthcare, particularly cancer treatment. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, who started a three-day visit to Israel this morning, said Maltese patients will benefit from better care and attention in various health areas, especially oncology. Describing the Israeli health service as "world class", Dr Muscat said the action plan was a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding signed in 2005, on which progress had stalled. "There is the political will to see this through," he said after talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

Malta and Nigeria have signed an agreement for the repatriation of Nigerian migrants who arrive in Malta irregularly. The agreement, described by the government as ‘important’ was signed in Brussels by Foreign Minister George Vella and his Nigerian counterpart Aminu Wali.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dr George Vella today signed a Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Malta and the Federal Republic of Somalia. On the fringes of the European Union, League of Arab States meeting in Athens, Foreign Affairs Minister George Vella signed this communique with Somali Ambassador HE Ali Said Faqi. This is the first ever agreement between Malta and Somalia, and marks the beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

L-iffirmar sar f'Beijing fil-preżenza tal-Prim Ministru Malti Joseph Muscat u tal-Prim Ministru tal-Kunsill tal-Istat taċ-Ċina, Li Keqiang. Il-Prim Ministru Malti u dak Ċiniż kellhom laqgħa qabel l-iffirmar tal-ftehim.
Three bilateral agreements with Jordan were today signed by Foreign Affairs Minister George Vella and his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh. The agreements are for cooperation between the ministries of the two countries, the waiver of visas for diplomatic passports and the cooperation in combating crime and illicit trafficking of drugs.
