Għaldaqstant, wara l-festi tal-Għid, il-Ministru se jibda jsejjaħ laqgħat mas-Sindki u l-membri tal-Kunsilli Lokali biex jiddiskutu flimkien il-problemi li hemm fil-lokalitajiet rispettivi tagħhom, dwar ix-xogħol infrastrutturali li waqa’ lura u anke x’hemm bżonn li jsir, kemm bħala toroq u anke bħala proġetti ewlenin u trasport pubbliku, fost oħrajn.
The government has adopted a new measure which sees local councils pay €500,000 less in tipping fees, Parliamentary Secretary for Culture and Local Government, José Herrera, announced today. Visiting the Marsa Local Council, Dr Herrera said that the previous administration had reduced the budget allocation towards local councils by €0.5 million. Moreover, despite allocating an extra €1.4 million for tipping fees, the government had reduced the local council allocation by €500,000 which would have resulted in local councils across Malta and Gozo paying for tipping fees to WasteServ from their budgets, he explained.

Local councils are to receive a €4 million budget boost this year, parliamentary secretary for local government Stefan Buontempo said today. The cash injection means councils will as a whole receive €46 million from the public purse - a nine per cent increase on 2016 figures. Dr Buontempo announced the increase, which he said was the largest increase in local council history, during a seminar held at Birkirkara local council.

Local government has received almost €7 million from Central government for capital projects, the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities has said. Mr Parnis said that this shows the largest ever investment made in local government. This money has been allocated to support 30 local councils in the execution of 32 capital projects across Malta and Gozo. Just over half of the capital projects are finalised while many more, are in an advanced stage. Among these are projects being carried out by Xgħajra Local Council, with the council receiving €211,250. Qrendi local council has also received funding from the capital projects fund, to the sum of €191,250.
