Din iz-zjara (tas-segretarju generali tal-poplu tal-Gemaherija tal-Libya, Omar Mustafa Montasser) serviet ta' gid kbir ghal pajjizna ghaliex barra li Malta kisbet vantaggi kummercjali permezz taz-zewg ftehim li gew iffirmati, ir-relazzjonijiet bejn Malta u l-Libja komplew jissahhu permezz ta' djalogi li zgur ghenu biex dawn ir-relazzjonijiet ikunu bbazati fuq l-ugwaljanza u r-rispett reciproku.

The good relations with Libya have been maintained in all sectors.

Maltese (Nationalist) government officials popped over rather a lot themselves, for what purpose has never really been made clear. One government minister got to know Tripoli and the Gaddafis so well, and built up such a network of useful contacts, that he bought a house there and set up an eponymous consultancy company – John Dalli & Associates – which claims on its website that it helps others enter the Libyan market. Though, unlike Labour, they have left the party out of the equation and conducted their relationship with Gaddafi solely at government level, Nationalist politicians too have been guilty of fostering the impression that Malta has some kind of special relationship with the Tyrant of Tripoli. They were proud of this special relationship. They thought it was something to boast about, that they were ‘in with’ Gaddafi and had one over those clueless Anglo-Saxons.

Dittatur li tul it-tirannija tieghu, qatel eluf ta’ nies u kisser eluf ta’ familji f’pajjizu stess. Bizzejjed insemmu l-massakru li kien ghamel f’habs fl-1996 meta kien ordna l-qtil ta’ elf persuna li kien qieghed izomm bhala prigunieri ... sfortunatment halla wkoll eluf kbar ta’ vittmi mhux biss tul ir-rivoluzzjoni, izda wkoll fl-ahhar 42 sena ta’ tmexxija mill-aktar tiranna, u li kienet ukoll tul is-snin mill-aktar imdemmija u ta’ sagrificcju ghall-poplu Libjan kollu.
