Applications for the Sports Eqipment Scheme will be available as from Monday, 12th August 2013. This was announced during a press conference by Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport, Stefan Buontempo, during the launch of the Sports Equipment Scheme. The scheme is being administered in collaboration with the Minister for Finance Prof. Edward Scicluna. Parliamentary Secretary Buontempo said that this scheme addresses the need for a healthier and physically active society. Applicable to everyone, the sport equipment scheme is a way of reaching out to communities, by enticing individuals, to do physical exercise at home. The Finance Minister, in a message, emphasised on Malta’s need for a healthier society which will result in financial gains by reducing the expenditure bill of the health sector. Applicants can benefit from a 15.25% grant, up to a maximum of €100 per person. The scheme will be valid till 31st December 2013 or up to the 1,000th application submitted. Applications can be obtained by either visiting the offices of the Kunsill Malti għall-Isport or on www.sportmalta.org

The government has signed a €500,000 agreement with the Gozo Football Association to upgrade various football pitches, including the Gozo Stadium that will host next May’s U17 UEFA competition.

Marsascala will finally get its own football pitch after the government allocated disused land within the family park for the €1.5 million investment. The football pitch was originally planned as part of the Sadeen university campus in Żonqor, but revised plans that reduced the campus footprint had to do away with it. The bill will be footed by the government and the Malta Football Association.
